Ollantaytambo is without a doubt one of the most amazing places on Earth. Shrouded in mystery, experts are unable to explain how ancient cultures built this megalithic site thousands of years ago without modern tools.
This ancient complex is located at an altitude of around 3,000 meters. It is considered one of the most important and greatest ancient Inca sites in Peru. Interestingly, many experts agree that Ollantaytambo even predates the great Inca empire itself.
But what makes Ollantaytambo so special?
Well, this megalithic complex features the most impressive megalith work in southern America. At Ollantaytambo, we find massive granite blocks—some of them with a weight that surpasses 70 tons. Most of the blocks of stone used in the construction of Ollantaytambo were quarried straight from the side of a mountain, located on the other side of the valley.
It remains a profound mystery as to how ancient man managed to transport these massive blocks of stone thousands of years ago.
Lost ancient technology?
The fact that Ollantaytambo still stands today has led many experts to question whether or not unknown techniques were used in the building process. Perhaps in the distant past, even before the Inca, an ancient civilization possessed advanced technology that allowed them to precisely shape, quarry, transport, and put into position incredible blocks of stone that are a challenge for modern engineers today.
One of the most impressive features of Ollantaytambo is without a doubt the—never completed—Temple of the Sun.
This massive structure boasts SIX MASSIVE monoliths that were put together in such a way as if the builders had no issue whatsoever with the weight of the massive blocks of stone.
The level of precision at Ollantaytambo is something extraordinary.
The precisely shaped corners of some of the stones have left countless experts baffled.
Many authors agree that the builders of this megalithic complex must have possessed tools with high quartz crystal content, hardened carbon or cobalt steel, in order to achieve what they did. Not a single tool has been found there today.
The only thing that can be said about Ollantaytambo is that it is an ancient marvel of engineering and architecture, it is a fortress, and complex city and many questions have been raised throughout history regarding the construction of this ancient site.
Some would agree that Ollantaytambo matches in complexity not only ancient sites located nearby as Tiahuanaco and Puma Punku but the great Pyramid of Giza located half-way across the planet.
